The care guidebook

Room for a better question.

What will it cost?

The number in the biggest type rarely answers every cost question. Let’s find the parts still missing.

What does online care cost?

A list price is the medicine maker’s published price. It may be very different from what you pay.

A cash price is for paying without insurance. With insurance, your share depends on your plan. A government program can have its own price and rules about who qualifies. These figures can all refer to the same medicine.

There is no useful total until you know what the quote includes. Ask for the medicine, visits, follow-up, tests and any delivery charges to be spelled out. Leave unknown costs open rather than treating them as free.

Why ask what happens after the first price?

In the government listing checked September 26, 2026, the introductory price for semaglutide (Ozempic injection) was $199 for each of two monthly fills.

That offer was for US residents aged 18 or older who were new patients paying without insurance. The offer applied to two strengths: 0.5 mg and 0.25 mg. Each dose contains a stated amount of medicine, called its strength; the label uses milligrams, shortened to mg.

After those first two monthly fills, the listed 2 mg price was $499 a month. The 0.25 mg option, the 0.5 mg option and the 1 mg option were each listed at $349 per month. These amounts explain price bands; the person prescribing chooses the treatment with you.

December 31, 2026 was the offer’s scheduled end date. That calendar deadline is separate from each new patient’s limit of two fills at $199.

Under the terms, you could neither seek repayment from insurance nor put this medicine spending toward your insurance deductible.

Your deductible is the part you cover first for certain medicines or care; only after that does your plan begin to pay. Ask the plan how it applies to your prescription. The example above is a dated medicine offer, not a total for online care. Check the terms before relying on that price.
